A Bee's Kiss
The Bee's Kiss is the gentle story of 7 year old William and his granddad Bill as they journey on a picnic together. It blossoms into a surreal and magical adventure when, in a quiet moment watching honeybees at work, William finds himself face to face with a curious bee. Hypnotised by its gaze, William's daydream unfolds into a magical world where time is compressed and where fact and fiction cross-pollinate in a whimsical way.
It's a lovely heart warming story full of childlike wonderment and surprise thanks to Jo's fabulous colourful animated characters. Rendered loosely by hand in pencil, ink and paint, then scanned together with fabrics and patterns and compiled digitally in Photoshop, the end product is a tasty visual delight of the senses.
Whangarei based Author Graeme Glass approached Jo after seeing her work on the Watermark website and felt her style was a perfect match to the text. Despite Jo's incredible award winning career as an illustrator, this is her first children's book, and true to her form The Bee's Kiss is the bee's knees.
